“Count it all joy when you fall into trials, knowing that trying of your faith works patience!” (James 1:2,3)

Everyone has trials and troubles in their lives!    No doubt you have some of these which really  burden you down.  What is your major life challenge, trial or trouble (c,t or t)?  How are you dealing with it?  (very well or not so well?)

Mine is Parkinsons Disease (P.D.).  I was diagnosed to have it several years ago.  Only in the last few months has it really become a real burden, c,t or t!  My life has really changed!  P.D. has affected my speech, stability (balance), stamina, strength, swallowing, spasms (body muscle control), speed (often do things at slow minus 1), and my skinny (a weight loss program).  Three things help me deal with my P.D..  (medication, rest & less physical labor)

The Focus of this article will be to share what else has greatly helped me to deal with this major trial in my life and other challenges too.  In 4 words it is – The Word of GodPlease note in the Word some Clear Commands, some Precious Promises and some Timely Truths which are helping me.  These can be of help to you with the major c,t or t in your life, if you apply them to your situation.  Ponder these a few times.  Do not get overloaded at the first reading of them.  Bite off and digest things one bite at a time, like you would eat an elephant, one bite at a time.

The Clear Commands and Precious Promises are often found in the same verse of Scripture or context of verses.  Sometimes a Precious Promise is also a Timely Truth.  Note some Clear Commands with some Precious Promises occurring together
1).  Come To Christ as your Savior – Jesus said, “Come unto Me all you that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest,” Matt. 11:28.  The Gospel is – “Christ died for our sins and rose again, according to the Scriptures.”  I Cor. 15:3,4.  Jesus said, “Repent and believe the Gospel.”  Have you done this?? (trusted Christ as your personal Savior)?  Check out two articles on my website (  “Life’s Most Important Question” and “Are You Sure You Are a Christian?”  A person must first come to Christ as Savior before he/she can really come to Him in times of trouble.
2).  Get Serious About Prayer – “Call (often) upon Me in the day of trouble:  I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”  Note the command and the 2-fold promise here.  *** Psalm 50:15.  Pray for wisdom in how to deal with the trial – James 1:5.  Note the promise in Prov. 2:6.
3).  Trust the Lord to Help you – Proverbs 3:5,6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart …… in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.”  The Lord will be (is) the strength of the righteous man in time of trouble, because “they trust in (lean upon) Him,” Psalm 37:39,40.
4).  “In everything give thanks”  “Consider it all joy” “Glory in trials” – Eph. 5:20, James 1:2, II Cor. 12:9.  (This is HARD!)  Stop, read, believe the precious promises along with the commands and be encouraged.  The big one to me is in II Cor. 12:9 – God’s grace is sufficient (enough).
5).  Learn to be Content with what you have – “Be content with such things that you have: for He has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you”.  So that we may boldly say, “The Lord is my Helper, and I will not fear ……,”  Hebrews 13:5,6.
6).  Look around and notice the trials and troubles of others – “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things (troubles) of others,” Phil.2:4.  Seek to be a help or blessing to them.  Stop and think about II Cor. 1:3,4!!
7).  Occupy (obey, do business for God) until Christ comes again or you live your last day – Luke 19:13 says “Occupy until I (Jesus) come>”  and “be not weary in well-doing” for the long haul “for in due season we shall reap if we faint not,”  Gal.6:9.

Now Note some Timely Truths about challenges, trials and troubles – Stop, read and believe the truths in these verses of Scripture – Romans 8:28-30, II Cor. 4:16-18. Psalm 119:71,75.

1).  How are you doing in obeying these commands and claiming the promises?  Hag. 1:5
2).  Who do you know that is going through a time of trouble now?  What could you do to help or encourage him or her?  (a good word – Prov. 12:25 or a kind helping hand – consider King David’s kindness shown to another man in II Samuel 9)  Just DO IT!!  Why not go for one every day?
3).  As you read your Bible in days to come, be on the alert for other verses that could apply to your challenge situation.  Write down the references.  Read them again and share them and the verses in this article with others who might be helped by hearing them.

                                                                                     (DRA – John 3:16)

P.S.  It is my prayer that the content of this article will help you travel up the road of life’s troubles in the light of God’s Son!
(John 8:12)
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!
(Rom. 16:24)
