Have you ever heard of a man named Harold Cook? I’m not speaking of the Iowan who owned a farm several years ago, northwest of Earlham, Iowa. I’m talking about the man, named Harold Cook, who discovered, many years ago, a tooth on his farm in western Nebraska.
An interesting story can be told about Mr. Cook and the tooth which he found. He sent the tooth to the Museum of Natural History in New York. He told the people there that it was from an ape man. The scientists at this museum studied the tooth. They decided it was the tooth of a man that lived in prehistoric times. The man who belonged to the tooth was called “The Nebraska Man”. This story even included a picture of this ‘ape man’ and his wife. Other media sources promoted “The Nebraska Man” as the latest evidence that man evolved from the apes.
Do you want to know ‘the Rest of the Story’ about Harold Cook and the tooth? It is interesting! Further investigation was conducted on the tooth and at the site where it was discovered. (a D.S.I. = Discovery Scene Investigation) How about this? It was discovered that the tooth did NOT come from an ‘ape-man’, but from an extinct pig. A short time later scientists learned that the pig was not even extinct! (Did one of Harold’s pigs have a tooth missing? Only God knows.)
Author Ken Ham, in his book “And God Saw That It Was Good”, has a clear summary statement regarding “The Nebraska Man” and missing links. He said, “Nebraska Man was not an ape-man at all. No evidence has ever been found, or ever will be found, to contradict the answer (to man’s origin) given in the Book of Genesis in the Bible, that God created the first man directly from the dust of the ground.” (Genesis 2:7)
If you wish to do it, consider Mr. Ham’s statement. Research the things you learn about missing links, which supposedly link human beings to apes, in the process of evolution.
Two closing questions for you to ponder: 1). When you consider the vast complexities of the human body and mind, why not simply believe Genesis 2:7 which says, “The Lord God formed out of the dust of the earth, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul.”? And 2). Did you know that either believing in Evolution or in Creation is a “faith” matter? Hebrews 11:3 says, “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God …”. No creationist or evolutionist was there at the beginning. Both positions have to go by faith that their ‘evidence’ is correct. It is helpful to me to note that a man, the Creator, was actually there at the beginning. Read Colossians 1:13-17.
